Dear NAHJ Nation,
I want to begin by congratulating the NAHJ Chicago chapter for hosting the Region 6 conference “Latin America: Coverage and Challenges.” The event was very well attended. The guests who I spoke with were pleased with the quality of the programs and panelists.
A special thanks to Region 6 Director Rosa Morales, Chicago chapter president Carolina Cruz, the conference committee, volunteers and staff for their leadership and commitment in realizing the wonderful event. And of course un gran abrazo to all of the Ñ-Awards recipients for their outstanding work in their field and for our association.
But we are not done yet!
The final regional conference of the year will be in Dallas, Texas. The Region 5, BIG D conference will be held on Saturday, December 6-7. You can expect the same dynamic programming and networking that NAHJ prides itself in producing. I hope many of you will join us.
I also want to congratulate the newly-elected board of the NAHJ Dallas Chapter, Hispanic Communicators DFW. Saul Garza, a reporter for KDFW-TV will serve as the president for the next two years. He has done a great job leading the chapter for the past year. He volunteered to take over when the president resigned. Good luck Saul and board!
A reminder that this Wednesday, Oct. 16, NAHJ is hosting a virtual town hall meeting for all members. Members in good standing should have received an email with the time and call-in number. As previously stated, we will be discussing the NAHJ representatives and the executive director’s recommendation for our association to leave UNITY formally.
I must overstate “formally” because as I mentioned before – NAHJ would continue to work with UNITY on a case by case basis where projects chosen would support the best interests of our association. You are encouraged to email questions and comments ahead of time to nahj@nahj.org .
